A stellar field of twenty-two drivers
have nominated for Round 15 of the Ian
Boettcher Volkswagen Series at Brisbane
International Speedway this Saturday
night, providing race fans with their
last opportunity to see top shelf Super
Sedan action in Brisbane this season as
the Archerfield venue hosts it's final
Round of the 2007/08 Series.
The nominations list for this weekend's
event holds the names of some of the
very best in the country, including
National Super Sedan Series Champion
Michael Doblo, former National Champion
Darren Kane, Series leader Wayne Brims,
Ian Brims and Steve Jordan plus the
likes of Craig McGeorge, Tania Smith,
Steve Pearce and Gavin Northfield,
giving the event an exciting mix of
nationally ranked drivers and Series
contenders and regulars.
Kane enters the event a last start
winner, racing to victory in the two day
event at Charlton Raceway in Toowoomba
over Easter in his first drive back with
the 2008 National Title winning
Boettcher team. Kane, the 2004
Australian Super Sedan Champion, also
won Round 7 of the Series at Toowoomba
back in December and will start a
short-priced favourite on Saturday
night.
Doblo stunned the Super Sedan fraternity
earlier this season with three
consecutive victories in the final three
races of the Carline Mufflers National
Super Sedan Series to clinch the Title,
edging out Wayne Brims by just over two
hundred points in the final Championship
tally. After a slower than expected
start to the National Series, Doblo and
crew chief Bevan Collins found the form
they were looking for in the back half
of the Series and will be hoping to
carry that form into Round 15 of the IBV
Series this weekend.
Wayne Brims won three of the first
Rounds of the Series this season,
swapping paint and victories with Jamie
McHugh through the first six Rounds
before Kane broke their stanglehold in
Round 7. With McHugh retiring after his
Australian Title win, it seems a
foregone conclusion that the Series
Championship will be won by Brims for
the second year running. Although Brims
holds a commanding lead in the points
and only needs to be collect points at
each of the remaining Rounds to wrap up
the Championship, he is a racer and
racers love to win so it would be a
brave punter who doesn't include him in
the mix for victory on Saturday night.
Fourth in points after the opening
fourteen Rounds, Ian Brims has two
victories and six top five finishes to
his name this season and despite not
contesting all the Rounds to date, Brims
can still finish on the Series
podium come the end of season
Presentation Dinner. Brims' 1093 points
is just behind third placed Craig
McGeorge's tally of 1138 points for the
season and solid results across the the
final four Rounds could even see him
eclipse McHugh's standing of 1410 points
when the Series comes to a close at
Maryborough on May 17.
Steve Jordon, third in Round 14 at
Toowoomba and the current Australia #2
after chasing McHugh across the line in
the Australian Title in February, has
little to gain on the points front after
contesting limited Rounds of the Series
this season and victory on Saturday
night will be his sole focus. Likewise
for the likes of Tania Smith and Lenny
Black whereas McGeorge, Steve Pearce,
Barry Craft and Gavin Northfield will be
out to consolidate their top ten
standings in the Series.
The format for Round 15
of the Ian
Boettcher
Volkswagen
Series is
for three Rounds of three Heats followed
by a six lap Dash for the top six
qualifiers and a thirty
lap Feature event. Early support
class
racing starts from
approximately 4.30pm with
the main program from 6.00pm. Pit gates
open from 3.00pm,
main gates 4.00pm. Contact Brisbane
International Speedway on

details, area accommodation and track
information.
