Marc Giancola
tonight won a
thrilling Super
Sedan Feature race
at the SmokeFree WA
Collie Speedway,
which was the fifth
round of the Super
Sedan Summer Series
Giancola started on
pole in the Twenty
Five lap final and
lead throughout,
opening up a
commanding lead over
the remainder of the
field, before the
first of three
stoppages during the
event.
On each occassion,
after the restart he
would open the lead
again, and was not
troubled throughout
to win in dominant
fashion, on what
ended up being a
very dry and slick
surface, after a
twenty four event
all sedan program.
Behind Giancola,
Kemble Aylett had
the entire field
bottled up behind
him, with Gary
Higgs, Rick Musarra,
Murray Iwanow, Kevin
Bell, Peter Lyall
and Micheal Nash all
trying to pass
Aylett as laps
ticked by.
By the time Aylett
surcummed, it was
too late to catch
Giancola who was
half a lap ahead of
the field. Murray
Iwanow made several
failed attempts on
the outside, and
eventually reitred
from the event which
had five other
retirees, including
State Champion, Rob
Bawdon, who did not
complete one lap in
the main event.
Higgs held off
Murray Iwanow in the
concluding stages,
with Kevin Bell a
close fourth, while
Peter Lyall and
Aylett rounded out
the top six.
Earlier in the
night, some spirited
heat races saw six
different winners in
the heats, with
Musarra, Giancola,
Dustin Higgs, Bawdon,
Kevin Bell and Gary
Higgs all
successful.
In the support
events, one of the
most outstanding
Feature Races for
Junior Sedans ever
seen, saw Tahlya
Spicer win a
thrilling ten lap
event, from brother
Tristyn Spicer and
Morgan Melvin, which
saw the twelve car
field race three and
four wide throughout
the event.
David Lowe dominated
the Production Sedan
heats but was
upstaged by Brendon
Crocker in the
Feature, while Greg
Avins won the Street
Stock Final
