Tragedy befell the Australian Super Sedan community this week
with the death of popular South Australian identity Shane Dryden
in an automobile accident on his way home from the opening round
of the 2011/2012 Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series.
As a passionate Super Sedan fan, Shane was a former driver and
car owner, served as a member of the Super Sedan Technical
Advisory Committee and this season had volunteered as a member
of the NSSS team of officials.
In
recognition of his service to Super Sedan racing and to honour
Shane’s memory, the Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series
has inaugurated the Shane Dryden Crew Chief of the Year Award.
Given Shane’s interest in the technical specifications of the
category, the Crew Chief of the Year is a fitting tribute to his
passion for the sport.
The
Shane Dryden Crew Chief of the Year winner will be determined by
a vote of all crew chiefs of contracted teams on a 3-2-1 basis.
Each crew chief is asked to vote for the rival crew chief they
most respect, has performed to a consistently high standard and
who they believe has been the most prepared to provide
assistance to other teams. A willingness to help others is a
key criteria in the voting process as this is an attribute for
which Shane was renowned.
Following an on-track ceremony at Toowoomba’s Charlton Raceway
last weekend, a tribute will be conducted in Shane’s home state
at Murray Bridge Speedway on Saturday night (January 7) during
round five of the Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series.
The
funeral service will be conducted at Brisbane’s Mt Gravatt
Cemetery at 2:00pm on Monday, January 9, with a memorial service
to be held in Adelaide in late January.
