A Brims Double At Archerfield, Series Championship Lead Extended

Ian Brims scored his second Ian Boettcher Volkswagen Super Sedan Series victory of the season on Saturday night March 01, leading all but one lap of the thirty lap Feature event to lead home Wayne Brims and Craig McGeorge and move himself into third place in the Series standings. Wayne Brims extended his overall lead in the Series when his closest rival in the points chase Jamie McHugh failed to finish.

Back to back victories for Ian Brims, he also won the previous Round in Lismore on Australia Day, has given an extra element of spark to the Series after the opening half of the season was dominated by Wayne Brims and Jamie McHugh. With John Leslight in his corner turning the spanners, Ian Brims' successive Round wins has given notice to the leaders that the Series is far from over with six Rounds remaining.

Adding to the intrigue of how the points chase will eventually pan out, McHugh's failure to finish at Archerfield has given Wayne Brims probably the biggest point break he has held over his rival all season, 1542 - 1410. Ian Brims sits in third on 966 points followed by McGeorge (934), Pearce (717), Barry Craft (664), Darren Kane (446), Chris Albert (417), Des Korn (356) and Geoff Phillips completing the top ten with 335 points.

Round 12 of the Series took it's toll on a number of drivers, with less than half the field completing the distance in a race of survival and heavy, one lane track conditions throughout most of the night. Jack Childs, Barry Craft, Trent Wilson, Frank Armstrong, Steve Pearce, Wayne Randall, Chris Albert, McHugh, Mark Pagel and Rodney Croft all registered DNF's in the Feature race. Blair Granger also crashed heavily during the qualifying Heat races, flipping a number of times before emerging shaken but uninjured from his car. Grainger took no further part in the night's racing.

Heat race wins went to Wayne Brims (2), McHugh, McGeorge, Randall, Ian Brims, Mark Pagel, Gavin Northfield and Tony Brinkman. Ian Brims won the Dash from Wayne Brims, Pearce, McGeorge, Northfield and McHugh. Wayne Randall posted the fastest time of the night with a 14.497s lap during Heat 4, with Wayne Brims (14.562) and McHugh (14.572) the next two quickest cars on the night.

With a break in the schedule to allow for the running of the Australian Super Sedan Championship this weekend in Mildura, the Ian Boettcher Volkswagen Series moves to Gympie for the next Round on Saturday night March 15,  ahead of the now annual two night Easter show at Charlton Raceway in Toowoomba on March 22/23. The Division 1 Series will share the billing in Toowoomba with the AS Concrete Pumping Service Development Series which is currently being led by Alex Jenner.
