After a terrific trifecta of events to start the 2011/2012
Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series, the championship
treks further south for a double-header weekend of racing in
Victoria and South Australia. Following another outstanding
exhibition at Sydney Speedway on Wednesday night, teams are now
making the long haul to contest round four at Mildura’s Timmis
Speedway before backing up the following night at Murray Bridge
Speedway.
With three different winners from as many rounds thus far, there
is no reason to believe that the Mildura event tomorrow night
(Friday, January 6) won’t see yet another driver standing atop
the podium at the conclusion of the 35-lap feature event. The
likes of Australian champion Steve Jordan, two-times series
champ Wayne Randall, three-time national titleholder Michael
Nicola, Victorian champion Lucas Roberts, South Australia’s Dave
Gartner and the Tasmanian trio of Jarrod Harper, Dave Nichols
and Steve Latham have been amongst the frontrunners and will
only need some cards to fall their way to join Lachlan Onley,
Darren Kane and Brad Smith as feature winners this season.
Of course, last season’s runner-up Trent Wilson returns to the
fray after missing Sydney with an engine problem and there are
plenty of other contenders chasing the victory spoils. Sam
Hughes has been improving at every round, while Shane Best, Des
Korn and Bill Miller are proven race winners who are yet to put
their best foot forward in the 2011/2012 championship.
Also amongst the starters once again are Dave Mackenzie and
Graeme Elliott, while non-contracted drivers confirmed so far
for Mildura include Zac Calderwood, Luke Dodding and Craig
Lappin.
Both Calderwood and Dodding will also be competing at Murray
Bridge on Saturday night (January 7), along with Michael Miller,
Wayne Vickers and Steve Schwarz, with several more nominations
expected on the day.
If the opening three rounds are any indication, race fans can
expect some fantastic tin top action this weekend as Australia’s
best Super Sedan drivers take on the local stars.
