The fifth-anniversary season of the
Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series is shaping as the best
series ever with a variety of new initiatives to be implemented
during the 2009/2010 championship. Series prize money will be at
record levels, buoyed by the confirmation of increased sponsorship
support, including the introduction of the Ocean Tyres Queensland
Cup.
Encompassing the opening three rounds of the series, the Ocean
Tyres Queensland Cup carries an additional $1000 in prize money to
be split between the series leader and the highest placed
non-contracted driver at the completion of events in Rockhampton,
Gympie and Toowoomba. The driver leading the championship at the
conclusion of round three will secure a $600 bonus, while the best
placed non-contracted driver will receive a $400 reward for their
efforts. Ocean Tyres Managing Director Lance Backer has been a long
time Super Sedan fan and his support of the Queensland Cup is
further evidence of his passion for the category.
Additionally, the Queensland Saloon Car Association (QSCA) has
confirmed that they will be providing Queensland Cup trophies for
both competitors in what looks set to become an annual part of the
Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series schedule. QSCA
President Paul Gannon confirmed the new award last week, declaring
that, "the QSCA is more than pleased to be working closely with
Ocean Tyres to add extra prestige to the Carline Mufflers National
Super Sedan Series. Ocean Tyres continue their fabulous support for
Super Sedan racing within Queensland and we thank them on behalf of
all competitors. The QSCA takes this opportunity to wish all
competitors, teams and officials the very best of luck, may it
exceed everyone's expectations and continue the growth of this world
class event."
The creation of the Ocean Tyres Queensland Cup adds an extra
dimension to the opening rounds of the series, which have always
been well supported by competitors and spectators alike. The cash
bonus on offer for non-contracted drivers should attract another
strong field of challengers from throughout Queensland and
interstate to take on the series stars.
Ocean Tyres are no strangers to the Carline Mufflers National
Super Sedan Series landscape, with Rockhampton's Michael Doblo
winning a series championship with extensive backing from the
Gladstone-based company. Teaming with Chris Bussey in a highly
professional two-car operation, Doblo swept the final three rounds
of the 2007/2008 series to clinch the title, while Bussey finished a
very credible fifth.
It is somewhat fitting that the opening round of the 2009/2010
Ocean Tyres Queensland Cup will be staged at Rockhampton Speedway on
Monday, December 28, with round two to be decided at Gympie's Mothar
Mountain Speedway the following night (Tuesday, December 29). The
final Queensland Cup event will be round three of the Carline
Mufflers National Super Sedan Series at Toowoomba's Charlton Raceway
on New Year's Eve (Thursday, December 31).
