This Saturday
night (October
9), Super Sedans
unleash at
Brisbane
International
Speedway for the
first time this
season when
Pennant
Commercial
Equipment
presents round
two of the
2010/2011 Ian
Boettcher Proton
Super Sedan
Championship
Series. With a
field bolstered
by the
appearance of
several
interstate
stars, the scene
is set for
another epic V8
showdown.
The opening
round in
Maryborough two
weeks ago
produced some
spectacular
moments, with
Steve Jordan and
Darren Kane
putting on a
memorable
display that
ultimately
resulted in Kane
winning the
feature event
while Jordan
emerged with the
series lead. No
doubt both
drivers will be
looking to
emulate these
performances at
their home
track. However,
a significant
challenge awaits
them given the
strength of the
field that has
been assembled
for Saturday
night’s
showdown.
Having been
denied a
potential podium
finish due to a
restart mix-up
in round one,
Jason Campbell
will be out to
avenge this
disappointment
and consolidate
his status as a
genuine
contender, while
Craig Torr and
Chris Albert
will be looking
to repeat – or
improve upon –
their top-five
results from the
Maryborough
fixture. Others
backing up from
round one, and
thereby
increasing their
points
accumulation in
the chase for
the Proton
prize, will be
Steve Van
Zeeland, Steve
Pearce and
Michael Roza.
Of course, the
return of the
NSW-based duo of
Wayne and Ian
Brims will add
an extra
dimension to
proceedings as
both drivers are
proven
championship
winners with a
wealth of
experience who
perform
particularly
well at the
Brisbane venue.
However, perhaps
most interest
will be centred
on the
appearance of
three-time
Australian
champion Michael
Nicola from
Victoria, who is
a welcome
addition to the
line-up. A
renowned hard
charger who has
won more blue
ribbon races
than anybody
else in the
field, Nicola
must be
considered
amongst the
pre-race
favourites and
brings an extra
dimension to the
event.
Other drivers
in the field
this week, all
of whom will be
making their
debut outing for
the season, are
Michael Hally,
Barry Craft,
Colin Hockley,
Scott Galea,
Lenny Black and
Sean Black, who
will be aboard
an ex-Matt
Pascoe Sweet for
the first time.
Each driver will
contest three
qualifying
heats, the
results from
which will
determine the
starting
positions for
the 30-lap
Pennant
Commercial
Equipment
feature race.
