He's
had
a
long
and
distinguished
career
in
racing
and as
a
two-time National
Super
Sedan
Series
Champion
there's
no
doubt
he
knows
how
to
win,
but
in
recent
weeks
it
has
been
a
case
of
close
but
not
close
enough
for
"The
Shock
Doctor",
Wayne
Randall.
Three
second
place
finishes
from
his
last
three
races
has
Randall
itching
for
a
win,
and
that
victory
could
come
as
early
as
this
weekend
when
the
Ian
Boettcher
Volkswagen
(IBV)
Series
returns
to
Rockhampton
Speedway
on
Saturday
night
April
12.
Randall
has
finished
second
in
each
of
the
previous
three
Rounds
of
the
IBV
Series
held
at
Gympie,
Toowoomba
and
Brisbane
with
Gary
Pagel,
Darren
Kane
and
Steve
Jordan
respectively
denying
him
the
opportunity
to
stand
in
victory
lane.
As a
racer,
Randall
will
not
want
to
make
it
four
in a
row.
Sitting eighth
in the
Championship after
competing
only
in
selected
Rounds
this
season,
Randall
has
little
to
gain
on
the
points
front
on
Saturday
night
and
his
focus
will
be
solely
on
the
race
win
in
front
of
his
Rockhampton
fans.
And
Randall certainly
knows
the
fast
way
around
the
1/4
mile
Rockhampton
Showgrounds
race
track,
setting
one
of
the
fastest
times
of
the
night
when
the
Series last
visited
the
Central
Qld
racing
venue
back
in
October. Mechanical
problems
prevented
Randall
from
taking
his
place
in
the
Feature
race
that
night,
with
Wayne
Brims
taking his
third
win
of
the
season on his
way
to
wrapping
up
his
second
consecutive
Series
Championship.
On
paper,
Randall's
main
opposition
this
weekend
will
come
from
last
start
winner,
Steve
Jordan,
Darren
Kane
and
Mick
Doblo,
the
trio
bringing
a
fairly
healthy
list
of
racing
achievements
of
their
own
to
the
track
with
them.
Steve
Jordan,
second
in
this
year's Australian
Super
Sedan
Championship, was
the
class
of
the
field
in
Round
15
in
Brisbane
on
Saturday
night
April
5,
cruising
to a
comfortable
victory
in
the
thirty
lap
Feature
event.
Kane,
back
behind
the
wheel
of
the
Boettcher
Race Parts
Mazda
RX-8
following
Jamie
McHugh's
recent
retirement
from
the
sport,
won
the
two
day
Easter
Super
Sedan Grand
Prix
in
Toowoomba
and
followed
it
up
with
another
podium
last
Saturday
night
in
Brisbane.
Doblo
capped
his
career
highlights
reel by
capturing
the 2007/08
Carline
Mufflers
National
Super
Sedan
Series
Championship
in
January,
racing
to
victory
in
the
final
three
Rounds
to
win
the
overall
points
score
and
returns
to
Rockhampton
this
weekend chasing
a
Round
win
in
the
Qld
Series
against
some
fairly
tough
opposition.
Local
drivers
Matt
Williams, Leigh
Williams
and
Rodney
Gough
will
be
out
to
show
their
southern
counterparts
that
they
can
never
be
discounted
from
the
results
when
Super
Sedan
events
come
to
town. Matt
Williams
in
particular
has some
runs
on
the
board
against
nationally
ranked
drivers
at
Rockhampton
Speedway,
racing
to a
very
creditable
fourth
place
finish
in
the
opening
Round
of
the
2006/07
National
Super
Sedan
Series
back
in
December
2006.
They
will
be
joined
by Grant
and
Gordon
Shaw,
Michael
Tomkins
and
Craig
Torr in
a
Central
Qld
attack on
the
Ian
Boettcher
Volkswagen Series
as
it
makes
it's
final Rockhampton
appearance of
the season.
With
Wayne
Brims
holding
an
unassailable
lead
in
the
race
for
the
Series
crown
on
1791
points,
the
race
for
the
second
and
third
is
on
in
earnest.
Although
no
longer
competing,
Jamie
McHugh
remains
in
second
place
on
1410
points
after
a
solid Series
campaign
until
his
retirement
in
February while
third
in
the
Championship
has
become
a
battle
between
Craig
McGeorge
and
Ian
Brims.
McGeorge
has
put
in a
tradesman-like
performance
this
season
after
returning
to
the
racetrack
from
a
work-related
injury,
with
three
podium
finishes
on
his
way
to
seven
top
five
results
and
1242
points
for
the
season.
Brims has
two
wins (Lismore,
Round
10 / Brisbane,
Round
12)
and
six
top
five
finishes
this
season
to
be
just
behind
McGeorge
on
1225
points,
and
with
solid
results
over
the
remaining
three
Rounds both
drivers
have the
opportunity
to
surpass
McHugh's
tally
for the
season.
This
weekend's
event
in
Rockhampton also
features
the
penultimate
Round of
the
AS
Concrete
Pumping
Super
Sedan Development
Series.
Eight
drivers
have
nominated
for
Round
7 on
Saturday
night,
including
the
top
three
in
the
Championship
Alex
Jenner,
Trevor
Brehmer
and
Dempsie
Pails
and
local drivers
Digger
McCullen,
Darren
Saunders
and
Justine
Smithwick. After
six
of
the
scheduled
eight
Rounds
for
the
season,
Jenner
leads
the
Championship
on
550
points
from
Brehmer's
426
and
he
can
put
the
Championship
beyond
doubt
with
another
solid
result
this
weekend.
As
per
the
previous
Round
of
the
Ian
Boettcher
Volkswagen
Super
Sedan
Series,
the
format
for
Round
16 on
Saturday
night
calls
for
three
Rounds
of
three
Heats
followed
by a
six
lap
Dash
for
the
top
six
qualifiers
and a thirty
lap
Feature
event. Just
three
Rounds
remain
this
season,
can
Randall
breakthrough
for
a
deserved
Round
win
at
Rockhampton
this
weekend?
