Brisbane Track Championship Round Cancelled
SSA Media Release
Round two of the
Archerfield Speedway Super Sedan Track Championship scheduled
for this Saturday night, November 12, has been cancelled. The
Super Sedan Association is very disappointed that the race
meeting cannot go ahead, but a lack of nominations left event
organisers with little choice but to cancel the fixture on
Monday morning.
Although the cancellation has created much discussion and
speculation, the decision isn’t an indication of anything more
than the fact that circumstances conspired to prevent the event
from being held. The staging of the New South Wales Super Sedan
Championship in Sydney on the same night has obviously had some
impact, along with other events that have conspired to make
several of our regular drivers unavailable. With as many as
eight competitors unable to attend, just 12 nominations were
forthcoming for the event.
Whilst there are plenty of race categories who have competed in
Brisbane and elsewhere with less than 12 cars this season, the
SSA believes that it is important to showcase the category in
the best possible light. Whilst there is no doubt there would
have been some good racing with the likes of Australian champion
Steve Jordan amongst the nominations, a small field of 12 cars
would not be a true reflection of what the division has to
offer.
Whilst it is disappointing, it is certainly not the death knell
that some doomsayers would like to believe (in fact there are
many race categories who would love to be able to secure 12
nominations for an event in the current financial climate). The
Super Sedan Association is disappointed about what has
transpired and extends an apology to race fans and the team at
Archerfield Speedway, but rest assured that Super Sedans are
still strong and will bounce back bigger and better than ever in
the weeks ahead.
The next event on the SSA schedule is round three of the Hotondo
Homes (Rockhampton) Super Sedan Championship Series at Gympie’s
Mothar Mountain Speedway on Saturday, November 19. Hopefully,
SSA competitors from all regions will converge on Gympie for
this event to reboot the 2011/2012 Super Sedan season.
