Given the overwhelming success of the
reborn Tri-City Challenge as part of the 2008/2009 Carline Mufflers
National Super Sedan Series, it is not surprising that APCO
Warrnambool have continued their sponsorship of the series again
this season, providing a fantastic first prize for the overall
winner of the series-within-a-series.
The scheduling of three Carline NSSS rounds on consecutive nights
in January was the catalyst for the rebirth of the Tri-City concept
last season and it was Victorias three-time national champ in
Michael Nicola who emerged as the 2008/2009 APCO Tri-City Challenge
champion. The 2009/2010 version will again see Western Speedway in
Hamilton hosting the first night of com petition on Friday 8
January, followed by Borderline Speedway, Mt Gambier on Saturday 9
January, and Premier Speedway, Warrnambool, on Sunday 10 January.
APCO Warrnambool has provided support through proprietor Edgar
Tanner with the provision of a $1,000 cash bonus to the overall
winner! The Tri-City Challenge champion will also receive a trophy
provided by the three clubs hosting the event.
Open to both Carline NSSS contracted drivers and non-contracted
drivers alike, it is expected that such an incentive will again see
a number of non-contracted drivers enter all three rounds.
Queenslands Wayne Randall - winner of the Mount Gambier round last
season - has already indicated that he will again be contesting all
of the Tri-City events for Tasmanian car owner Steve Jessop.
The Tri-City Challenge offers an opportunity for Super Sedan fans
to travel and witness some of the best Super Sedan racing of the
season. With all three tracks situated within a two hour drive of
each other, great crowds are again expected at each track.
APCO has its origins in petroleum wholesale distribution in the
western districts of country Victoria in the early 1970s. APCO
pioneered petroleum and convenience store retailing by recognising a
niche in the regional Victorian marketplace and, in 1978, opened its
first APCO EASY SHOP convenience / fuel retail centre in
Warrnambool, beginning a new era of high quality, modern and
well-equipped Convenience Store / Service Stations. Today there are
18 APCO EASY SHOP locations in the areas of Geelong, Bendigo,
Ballarat, Bacchus Marsh, Warrnambool, Wangaratta and Melbourne.
Due to the terrific support of APCO Warrnambool, the Tri-City
Challenge is again shaping as one of many highlights in what will be
the best Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series ever. APCO
Warrnambool is conveniently located at 485 Raglan Parade,
Warrnambool.
