After crossing the finish
line of the NSW Title deciding feature race in second place,
the Boettcher Racing Team driver was elevated up to first
place, after the original winner, Dave Gartner, was
disqualified for changing a right rear tyre during the red
light stoppage on the opening lap.
Although he would’ve liked
to have claimed his third consecutive NSW Title victory
under better circumstances, Kane admitted that he was lucky
to even greet the chequered flag in the position where he
did.
“On
the restart after the opening lap red light, a chunk of clay
became wedged in my right rear tyre, which caused a massive
vibration, and it not only made it very uncomfortable to
drive, but left me quite concerned,” commented the QLD # 36
Boettcher Race Parts supported Dominator Mazda RX8 driver,
who joined John Pyne, as the only other driver to claim a
hat trick of NSW Super Sedan Title wins. “Due to this
vibration it was a real handful to drive and really hurt my
speed. It’s certainly not the way that I wanted to capture
the win, but rules are there for a reason, and I’ll take it
all the same. I’ll admit that it’s certainly one of the most
unique ways that I’ve managed to take out a win.”
Kane had qualified third
for the NSW Title deciding feature race, after he had
finished his three heat races earlier in the night with a
fifth, a win and a third place. In the process of winning
his heat race, Kane set a new 1-lap track record.
For Kane, this was his
11th career
victory at a state and national title level.
With the 2011/12 season
starting to hot up, Kane and the Boettcher Racing Team will
be back in action this Saturday night (November 19) at
Gympie’s Mothar Mountain Speedway for the third round of the
Queensland Series.
