Onley Gearing for National Challenge(s)

NASR/ASCF Media Release

Throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, New South Wales reigned supreme as the premier Super Sedan racing locale in Australia, with weekly racing at tracks such as the Newcastle Motordrome amongst the most competitive in the country with names such as John Pyne, Ron Pyne, Alan Baker and Bob Brewer would wage war each weekend.  The new millennium has seen a significant shift in the New South Wales Super Sedan landscape with the closure of the Newcastle Speedway and the emergence of a new breed of tin top stars doing battle at a variety a venues across the state.  One talented youngster very much at the forefront of this exciting new era is 23-year-old Lachlan Onley.  In recent seasons, Onley has been one of the standout performers in New South Wales and has earned his place as a contracted driver on the 2008/2009 Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series.

Onley’s two previous attempts at the Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series have ended prematurely, albeit for vastly different reasons.  His first NSSS appearance at Rockhampton Speedway ended with an engine breakage in hot laps, a devastating blow after such a long haul.  Last season, Onley signed on as a contracted driver aboard a brand new Ford Mustang, only to suffer a broken arm in an accident during round three at Toowoomba’s Charlton Raceway which forced him out of the series.

Despite missing a round of the 2007/2008 Carline Mufflers New South Wales Super Sedan Series because of his broken arm, Onley was still the standout performer throughout the statewide competition, collecting feature race wins at Gilgandra Speedway (x2), Gunnedah Speedway and Parramatta City Raceway as well as a 3rd-place finish at Goulburn Speedway on his way to winning the series championship.  Also last season, Onley collected the biggest win of his career when he took out the opening round of the inaugural Super Sedan Hammerdown in Western Australia and then backed up with a runner-up finish the following night behind former national champ Darren Kane.

This season, Onley has again been in sensational form, winning the feature event in round three of the New South Wales Super Sedan Series at Nowra Speedway on Saturday night. The previous weekend in the New South Wales Super Sedan Championship at Gunnedah, Onley finished a fine fourth behind fellow NSSS contracted drivers in Wayne Brims, Matt Pascoe and Michael Doblo.

As one of the most talented young stars to emerge on the Australian Super Sedan landscape in several years and having proven he can beat his more experienced and more illustrious rivals on a variety of different circuits, Speedway Sedans Australia (ASCF) and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) are pleased to confirm Lachlan Onley as a contracted driver in the 2008/2009 Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series.
