Tri-City Changes for New Season

NASR National Office

SSA Media Release

The Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series has been the catalyst for a myriad of advancements and exciting opportunities for Super Sedan drivers, sponsors, fans and track operators. One of the most important of these developments has been the rebirth of the Tri-City Challenge that is now an integral part of the NSSS schedule.  Since it’s rebirth during the 2008/2009 Carline Championship, the Tri-City Challenge has proven to be an overwhelming success, bringing elite Super Sedan racing back to Victoria and producing some sublime racing from Australia’s finest drivers.

The Tri-City Challenge is back again this season with a new sponsor, new format and an amended schedule of events.  Ian Boettcher Race Parts have thrown their support behind the 2010/2011 Tri-City Challenge, which will again pay $1000 to the overall winner across the three consecutive nights of competition.

In a change from previous years, the opening round of the 2010/2011 Ian Boettcher Race Parts Tri-City Challenge – which doubles as round four of the Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series - will be held at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway on Friday, January 7.

Another change to the schedule this season is the inclusion of Avalon Raceway.  The Geelong circuit, which hosted the first ever NSSS event in January 2006 and is one of only two tracks to have been a part of the series every year since, will stage round two on Saturday, January 8 with the running of the annual K-Rock Cup, one of the longest running blue ribbon events on the Australian Super Sedan calendar.

The following night (Sunday, January 9), Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway will host the Tri-City Challenge finale for the third consecutive year. Despite the Sunday night scheduling, the team in Warrnambool do a fantastic job in making this show a success and the two NSSS events staged at Warrnambool thus far have been absolutely superb.

Open to both Carline NSSS contracted drivers and non-contracted drivers alike, it is expected that the Ian Boettcher Race Parts Tri-City Challenge will lure a large number of non-contracted drivers into battle. Last year saw the likes of Brett Simpson, Steve Vaughan, Trevor Ware, Lionel West, Lucas Roberts and David McKenzie taking on the interstate invaders and, with more than $25 000 in prizemoney up for grabs and an exciting new race format, it is expected that this year will see even more local stars in action.
