One of the most anticipated events of the 2010/2011 Ian
Boettcher Proton Championship Series schedule will be contested
this Saturday night (December 18) with the long awaited return
of Super Sedan competition to Kingaroy Speedway. Competitors
from near and far have nominated for the event at the revamped
showground circuit. Proudly sponsored by Ken Mills Toyota, the
race meeting will also feature round three of the Send with Us
Super Sedan Series.
In recent seasons, the Kingaroy venue has been in a state of
flux that has had many speculating about the future of the
showground circuit. However, some dedication and hard work from
those within the South Burnett Speedway Club has brought about a
complete transformation to the complex, with a new concrete
fence and a re-shaping of the track amongst many improvements.
Over 25 drivers from Queensland and New South Wales have
nominated for the double-header event and, given the changes to
the layout of the circuit and the extended absence of Super
Sedans from the venue – a special practice session has been
scheduled for Friday night (December 17).
Having enjoyed a two-week hiatus after a hectic start to the
season, competitors will be primed and ready for action with
many looking to cast aside early season misfortunes and launch
their bid for championship success. Of course, those near the
top of the leaderboard will be equally determined to consolidate
their position at what is the last SSA event of 2010.
After five completed rounds of competition, Darren Kane
currently sits atop the series standings with an 81-point
advantage over Rockhampton revelation Craig Torr, while Steve
Jordan is just 24 points adrift in what is shaping as one of the
closest championships ever.
Friday practice is from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, while Saturday
night’s big event gets underway with hot laps from 5.30pm. Each
driver will contest three rounds of heats to determine their
starting position in the 30-lap Ken Mills Toyota-sponsored
feature event.
