A superb night
of Super Sedan
action was
witnessed last
night at
Truckworks
Speedway City,
(Saturday 15
November 2008)
with the third
round of the JD
Couriers Super
Sedan Series.
Dave Gartner
ventured down
from Penola in
the state's
south east,
where he came,
he saw and
conquered, by
winning the
Feature Race,
with a flag to
flag result in
record time.
If anyone
thought the
first two rounds
of the JD Series
were 'exciting',
then last night
would have to
rate as
'entertaining',
especially in
the opening lap
of the Feature.
The line up for
the 20 lap
Feature saw Dave
Gartner and
Trevor Ware
share the front
row, Kym
Cottrell and Gil
Worthley on the
second row, Dan
Miller and the
winner of the
previous two
Feature races,
Shane Best on
row three, while
Bill Miller and
Chris Blunden
make up the
fourth row.
When the green
lights were
displayed,
Gartner raced
into the lead,
closely followed
by Trevor Ware,
while the big
moves through
the pack were
the made by both
Dan and Bill
Miller, along
with Shane Best.
Coming around
turn three on
the first
occassion,
something went
drastically
wrong, with cars
everywhere.
Shane Best rode
up on Kym
Cotrell's car
and it was
"stacks on the
mill!". Once the
scene was
cleared up, four
cars were not
able to restart,
being Cottrell,
Vaughan, Howlett
and Leyson.
Unfortunately,
only eight cars
faced the
starter for the
complete
restart, with 20
laps still on
the board.
As the green
lights were
displayed once
more, Gartner
again powered
away, closely
followed by
Ware, Dan
Miller, Best and
Bill Miller. The
race was on,
with Gartner
reaching mid to
high 15 second
laps on a
superbly
prepared track
surface, and
soon all the
attention
centred on the
battle for the
minor placings.
Dan Miller,
Best, Blunden
and Bill Miller
were all
fighting for
that second and
third podium
spot, while the
laps were slowly
dwindling down.
With only a
handful of laps
remaining, the
order was still
Gartner, Dan
Miller, Best,
Blunden, Bill
Miller and they
stayed like that
until they
greeted the
chequered flag.
Much to
everyone's
amazement, the
20-lap Feature
went non-stop,
then the race
time was
displayed on the
Speedway City
Time/Lap Board -
Gartner's time
was 5:21.52, a
new Record,
slashing 5.23
seconds off
Steve Vaughan's
record from
2003. Gartner's
average lap time
was 16.08
seconds/lap.
Gartner then
took the
chequered flag
from Scott
Mcintosh for his
victory lap in
front of a
reasonable sized
crowd, and he
was excited when
informed of his
record-breaking
feat! Second
place in the
Feature went to
Dan Miller who
drove a great
race after
starting on the
third row, while
Shane Best was
third followed
by Chris Blunden,
Bill Miller,
Trevor Ware and
Andrew Keen. Gil
Worthley was the
only car to
retire after the
complete
restart.
Earlier in the
night, the three
eight lap heat
races were taken
out by Gartner,
from Best and
Dan Miller,
before Trevor
Ware had a great
win in the
second heat,
with Cottrell
and Dan Miller
filling the
minor placing,
with the third
heat taken out
by Gil Worthley
(who again had
the quickest
heat time!) from
Gartner and
Cottrell.
After the
meeting, trophy
presentations
were conducted
by series
sponsor/co-ordinator
John Dawson in
front of a very
apreciative
gathering of
fans who then
enjoyed the
traditional
Super Sedans SA
Barbecue.
The Super Sedans
next show at
Truckworks
Speedway City is
a club show on
Saturday, 3
January 2009.
In addition to
JD Couriers -
the series is
also proudly
supported by
Hotline 40 Auto
Parts, Super
Sedans SA,
Fibreglass
Interntional and
the Albion
Hotel.
