Despite
finishing the fifth round of the Proton Queensland
Super Sedan Series at Brisbane International
Speedway last Saturday night in strong fashion,
Darren Kane fell short in his quest for victory and
ran second.
The former Australian and National Series
Champion, who has two rounds victories to his credit
in the Proton Queensland Series already this season,
started the feature race out of position two
alongside arch rival Mat Pascoe and dropped back to
third place from the drop of the green flag. Kane
maintained his third place for the majority of the
feature race distance and only came on strong aboard
his QLD # 36 Boettcher Race Parts supported
Dominator machine towards the latter stages by
firstly, passing Wayne Brims around the outside for
second place and then chased after leader Pascoe. In
the end, Kane simply ran out of laps and at the fall
of the chequered flag finished half a car length off
taking the victory spoils away from Pascoe.
“We were right up there in the end, but my car’s
setup came on a bit too little, too late and I ended
up in second place,” Kane expressed, who finished
with a win, a second place, and a sixth place in his
three heat races and then ran second in the Dash
behind Pascoe. “To be honest we struggled for most
of the night with the track surface, as we were
chasing grip and passing was also difficult due to
it being mainly one lane. To be honest we were only
good enough for third on the night, but our late
charge made us look a bit better than we actually
were.”
Winning is something that is in the blood of Kane
and the Boettcher Racing team and although
disappointed to finish second last Saturday night
they are keen to get back to the track.
“The challenge is what drives us and last Saturday
night we just weren’t on the money and were beaten
fair and square,” said Kane, who after Saturday
night’s result has maintained his comfortable lead
in the Proton Queensland Series point standings. “We
now cannot wait to get back to the track next time
to try and make emends and get back to our winning
ways.”
The weekend previous, Kane competed in the fourth
round of the Proton Queensland Series at Toowoomba’s
Charlton Raceway. Kane was well in contention for
the feature race victory only to have a race
incident while fighting for the lead with eventual
winner Steve Jordan and consequently spun out. Sent
to the rear for the restart, Kane fought his way
back to finish in eighth place.
Kane and the Boettcher Racing team will be back in
action this Saturday night (November 20) at Sydney
Speedway where they will defend their NSW Super
Sedan Title.
