Having fallen agonisingly short in
his bid to win the 2007/2008 Carline
Mufflers National Super Sedan
Series, Wayne Brims is the first
driver confirmed for the 2008/2009
championship. Last season, the New
South Wales titleholder was a model
of consistency throughout the NSSS
tournament with frequent appearances
inside the top ten, including
victory in round five at Geelong’s
Avalon Raceway. In fact, Brims took
the series lead after round six and
maintained that position heading
into the final round, only to fall
short in his bid for the title when
a sixth-place result in the feature
event relegated him to second
overall in the series standings
behind Michael Doblo.
In addition to his NSSS commitments
last season, Brims competed in a
plethora of events across the
country, accumulating an array of
feature race wins along the way,
including his second New South Wales
Championship victory at Gunnedah
Speedway. The unassuming Tweed
Heads-based racer again spent much
of his season racing north of the
border in Queensland defending the
Super Sedan Association Championship
he won the previous season. Having
started his championship defence in
the best possible fashion with three
wins in the opening four rounds,
Brims ultimately emerged a
comfortable winner by more than 350
points.
Few drivers sustain the level of
consistency that Brims achieves on a
weekly basis and for four
consecutive seasons (2002/2003,
2003/2004, 2004/2005 and 2005/2006)
he finished inside the top four
overall in the SSA Championship
Series before breaking through for
his first series win in 2006/2007.
Piloting a Pontiac Grand Prix
resplendent in Lightning
McQueen-inspired livery, last season
saw Brims contest 28 feature races,
making it to the finish on 27
occasions, including a 12th-place
finish in the Australian Super Sedan
Championship at Mildura’s Timmis
Speedway.
Brims joined the NSSS tour for the
first time in 2006/2007 and finished
sixth overall, finishing inside the
top ten at six of the eight rounds.
Having proven himself as a genuine
force in the category and
established a remarkable record of
consistency, commitment and success,
Speedway Sedans Australia (ASCF) and
the National Association of Speedway
Racing (NASR) are very pleased to
confirm Wayne Brims as a contracted
driver in the 2008/2009 Carline
Mufflers National Super Sedan
Series.
