Darren Kane picked up his third
Feature race win of the 2007/08 Ian
Boettcher Volkswagen Super Sedan
Series on Saturday night May 17 at
Maryborough Speedway, his victory over
Matt Pascoe and Gavin Nortfield in the
Series Final closing out the
season-long Championship.
Kane,
the current Qld Champion after winning
the State Title behind the wheel of
the Boettcher Racing Mazda RX8 at
Gympie Speedway in early May, traded
the lead with Pascoe during the
Feature event but it was Kane who
prevailed in the end, leading
twenty-four of the thirty laps and
finishing a little over three and half
seconds ahead of Pascoe at the flag.
Kane's
Maryborough victory ties him with
both Wayne and Ian Brims as winners of
three Series Features this season.
Kane also won two Toowoomba Rounds
this season, Round 7 in December and
Round 14 in March. Australian Super
Sedan Champion Jamie McHugh, now
retired, heads the list of Feature
race winners with four victories
during the IBV Series this season.
Although Wayne Brims had already
clinched the Championship ahead of
the Series Final, the battle for the
minors was still on in earnest with
Ian Brims and Craig McGeorge still in
contention for second place in the
final standings. Ian Brims led
McGeorge by thirty-eight points
heading into the Maryborough event and
increased that margin with a fifth
place finish in the Feature with
McGeorge coming home ninth.
McGeorge's
third place in Series points is just
reward for a consistent season in his
comeback to Super Sedan racing
following a lengthy layoff due to a
work-related accident. Despite not
finding victory lane during the
Series, McGeorge posted nine top five
finishes this season including four
podium results and competed in every
Round.
IBV Series Round 18 and AS Concrete
Pumping Development Series Round 8
Heat races were won by Matt Pascoe,
Craig McGeorge, Russell Dobson (2),
Wayne Randall, Peter Warren, Craig
Goodrum, Gavin Northfield and Darren
Kane. Dobson also won the B-Main from
Allan Schultz and Darren Saunders.
Super Sedan Association Inc (SSA)
drivers return to Brisbane
International Speedway this Saturday
night May 24, their final appearance
of the season at the Archerfield
raceway. Early nominations for this
event include Darren Kane, Wayne
Randall and John Leslight, with
Leslight driving Ian Brims' car in an
end-of-season cameo appearance.
The
final event on the Super Sedan
schedule for 2007/08 will be the
Grenville Anderson East Coast
Winternationals which will be held
over two nights of racing at Lismore
Speedway, June 7/8, and will pay a
healthy $5000 to the winner of the
fifty lap Feature event.
