Super Sedans
Back in Action in Queensland
SSA Media
Release
Following a lengthy break in competition as
a result of the devastating Queensland floods and the subsequent cancellation of
events in Gympie and Kingaroy, the Ian Boettcher Proton Super Sedan Championship
fires back into life this weekend when Ken Mills Toyota presents round ten of
the 2010/2011 championship at Maryborough Speedway on Saturday night (January
29). Despite the absence of some series regulars, a strong field from across
Queensland and interstate has nominated for the event, which doubles as a round
seven of the Send with Us Super Sedan Series.
With current points leader Darren Kane absent due to interstate commitments,
Rockhampton’s Craig Torr now seems the man most likely to take over the series
lead if he can continue his terrific run of form. Sitting just 81 points shy of
the top spot, a solid series of results through the heats and feature race on
Saturday night will catapult Torr to the top of the series standings.
However, there are a few heavy hitters standing between Torr and a feature race
win, including NSSS standout Steve Jordan, multiple state title winner Wayne
Brims and current Queensland champion Matt Williams, who will be making his
first appearance for the season. Rookie sensation Darren Lester, who currently
sits fourth overall in points behind Jordan and was superb in his Carline
National Super Sedan Series debut last month, will be joined by the likes Jason
Campbell and Steve Pearce in making every effort to rain on Torr’s parade and
advance their own position in the championship standings.
Meanwhile, Peter Smith heads into the weekend with a 27-point advantage in the
Send with Us series over another Rockhampton pedaller in Grant Shaw. Without
any racing since November, no doubt both drivers will be keen to get back on
track and continue their battle in the SSA development series.
More than 25 cars have nominated for the double-header show, including
Bundaberg’s Ashley Peal in his first outing since suffering extensive damage in
a spectacular crash at the previous round held in Maryborough.
Proudly sponsored by Ken Mills Toyota, the Super Sedan action gets underway with
hot laps at 6.00pm. With support from Formula 500’s and Street Sedans, the scene
is set for another crackerjack night of dirt track action at Maryborough
Speedway.
