The final night of the
West Australian Sedan Car Federation
Junior Sedan Championships was held on
Saturday, 26 April 2008, with Bronwyn
Channing winning a thrilling and
dramatic Championship decider.
Channing started on
the outside of Rhys Brown in the twenty
lap Championship decider and hit the
front in turn two.
The first of several
caution periods commenced on the opening
lap, causing a full restart, when Tegan
Does and Mitch Berliner collided.
Berliner could not restart and Does
rejoined.
Channing jumped to the
lead from a perfect start on the second
occasion, to lead Rhys Brown, Harley
Madden and Paul Joss, after Daniel Hade
spun while in third. Hade was able to
rejoin, but went a lap down in the
process.
Placing's remained
unchanged, as a large pack chased
Channing who opened a commanding lead,
over Brown, Madden, Joss, Tahlya Spicer,
Mason Fenner and Johnny Terriaca.
Madden took second
place from Brown on lap seven, but three
laps later Madden spun and went to the
rear of the field, putting Brown back in
second place, with a ten lap restart to
follow.
Channing continued to
lead, Brown, Joss, Spicer and Damon
Lyall as the laps ticked by, before
Brent Fox and Michael Ricetti made
contact, resulting in a five lap
restart.
With four laps to go,
Damon Lyall, Tahlya Spicer, Rhys Brown
and Paul Joss all spun in turn four,
while fighting for second place, with
Damon Lyall of Carnarvon sent to the
rear of the field. Rhys Brown was unable
to restart.
This left Channing
ahead of Paul Joss, Mason Fenner and
Tahlya Spicer, Hayden Norman and Tristyn
Spicer in a dash to the Championship.
A further stoppage
with three to go, built the suspense to
almost fever pitch, as Channing had to
survive another restart.
Bronwyn Channing went
on to win the event convincingly, though
the race for the minor placings was
undecided until the chequered flag, with
Collie's Paul Joss second, Geraldton's
Mason Fenner third, and Tahlya Spicer
fourth.
Bronwyn Channing is
just the second female driver to win the
event in its 30 year history with
Veronica McCann in 2000 being the other.
