The
National Association of Speedway Racing national office in
Adelaide has been overwhelmed with the number of expressions
of interest received by drivers wishing to contest the
2009/10 World Series Sprintcars Championship.
As a result of the improved schedule of events, a good
number of expressions has been received, including some of
Australia’s leading drivers, some seasoned WSS veterans and
some exciting new rookies.
Heading the list is World of Outlaws regular Kerry Madsen,
who is keen to contest his first full WSS championship for a
number of years. Madsen has based his Australian racing
schedule around Tyrepower PCR in recent years and is a
welcome addition to the WSS touring show. Madsen is the last
feature winner of WSS competition, taking out this year’s
two-night Grand Final at TPCR last January.
Backing up again will be Australia number two, Trevor Green,
keen to improve this season’s WSS result of fourth overall.
Australia number three Ryan Farrell has also expressed his
interest in going on the road full-time for his maiden
assault on the Championship in the Monte Motorsports
machine.
Peter Lack looks set to return for his third assault in the
GW Racing entry, while Performance Wholesale racer Bryan
Mann also wants to hit the road again after concentrating
his racing in Brisbane in recent seasons.
The WSS Management Group will meet on Sunday on the Gold
Coast to continue plans for the coming season.
Sprintcar Racing Pty Ltd representatives Dale Rodgers and
John Farrell will attend in addition to WSS Group Chairman
Geoff Kendrick, SCCA President Peter Mitchell, Promoters
Steven Green, Gavin Migro and John Kelly, WSS Race Director
Shane Collins and NASR Management staff, Paul Trengove and
Tim McAvaney.
More driver names who have expressed interest in being
awarded a WSS contract will be released next week.
