Peter
Lyall won the fourth round
of the Super Sedan Summer
Series with a dominant
showing of the Grand Opening
Showdown meeting at the
Perth Motorplex in Western
Australia, on Saturday
night.
Carnavon based Lyall,
driving the Autopro RX8
Mazda won the third twelve
lap race in record time, on
a super fast Motorplex
surface, after the time was
lowered in race two by
Murray Iwanow.
Nineteen drivers started the
evening, with Lyall winning
the opening event, from
Kemble Aylett who was
driving the Liam Burke spare
car, after Aylett suffered
mechanical problems in the
Northern swing of the Summer
Series a month ago. Dustin
Higgs finished a close
third.
The second twelve lap race
saw Murray Iwanow take the
lead early and was never
headed and in the process
lowered the twelve lap
record which had stood for
six seasons. State Champion
Rob Bawdon ran a credible
second, while Dustin Higgs
again filled the third
position.
The final twelve lap race
was the best of the three,
with Lyall and Aylett
running side by side for the
first six laps, before Lyall
skipped away in traffic.
Back in the pursuing pack,
Iwanow, Micheal Nash, Rick
Musarra, Rob Bawdon and Marc
Giancola were all fighting
for the minor positions.
Iwanow would finish third
after Bawdon and Giancola
made contact in the last
turn, which allowed Iwanow
and Micheal Nash to sneak
underneath to claim the
minor positions. Lyalls
victory narrowly eclipsed
Iwanows time, which left
Lyall surprised when
notified after the event.
