IDespite the very best efforts
from the Rockhampton Saloon Car Club and series organisers, the
opening round of the 2009/2010 Carline Mufflers National Super
Sedan Series has succumbed to inclement weather. Although faced
with persistent rain throughout the day, all involved remained
determined to run the event until another heavy shower at
3.00pm, with forecasts of more to follow, ultimately forced the
cancellation of the event.
This is the first time ever that a Carline National Super
Sedan Series event has been lost to rain in its entirety and,
unfortunately, the tight series schedule affords no opportunity
to reschedule the race meeting.
The Rockhampton Saloon Car Club deserved a much better
outcome after their work throughout the weekend promoting the
event. The pre-race party on Sunday night was a great success
with several cars on display, a free sausage sizzle and racing
action on the big screen. Monday morning saw Breakfast with the
Stars with another four cars on display and a fantastic free
bacon and eggs breakfast. The WIN Television crew were also on
hand to film interviews with series drivers.
Series organisers extend a huge thankyou to the Rockhampton
Saloon Car Club for their determination in trying to complete
the event and especially to Josh for all his efforts in
organising the activities over the weekend. Thanks also to Matt
Williams, Craig Torr, Shane Best, Steve Jordan, Trent Wilson,
Kevin Purton and Ashley Bergmeier for providing their cars for
display. A big thanks also to the race fans who came along to
meet the drivers and show their support for the series,
particularly given the less than favourable conditions.
The teams now head south to Gympies Mothar Mountain Speedway
for round two tomorrow night (Tuesday, December 29), with round
three scheduled for Toowoombas Charlton Raceway on New Years
Eve. For series information, visit the series website at
