The 2007/2008 season
proved a watershed
period for
second-generation
Victorian Super Sedan
pilot Ashley Bergmeier.
At just 23 years of age,
Bergmeier represents the
new breed of Super Sedan
competitors and his
2007/2008 results have
firmly established him
as one of Australia’s
leading Super Sedan
exponents. Looking to
expand on this hard
earned success,
Bergmeier has confirmed
his place amongst the
contracted drivers for
the 2008/2009 Carline
Mufflers National Super
Sedan Series.
The 2007/2008 Carline
Mufflers National Series
saw Bergmeier emerge as
a genuine contender
against Australia’s
elite Super Sedan
exponents. He qualified
into every feature race,
finished inside the top
ten on five occasions
and finished on the
podium at two rounds
(Brisbane and Toowoomba)
on his way to sixth
overall in the
championship.
Bergmeier got his first
taste of dirt track
experience as a
14-year-old when invited
to complete some laps
aboard an XB Falcon
Standard Saloon. After
spending just one year
competing in the Junior
Sedan division,
Bergmeier had dominated
the category to such an
extent that he made an
early move into the
Street Stock ranks. In
three years of Street
Stock competition,
Bergmeier qualified into
the final at every
championship event he
contested, upstaging
some far more
experienced drivers
along the way.
The 2004/2005 season
saw the youngster make
his first tentative
steps into Super Sedans
with three meetings in
preparation for his
first full season of
competition the
following year. In his
rookie year competing in
the Victorian Super
Sedan Association
Southern Nationals
Series, Bergmeier
secured podium finishes
in three events at
Horsham, Bacchus Marsh
and Rushworth. He also
qualified third in the
Victorian Championship
at Heartland Raceway and
took part in three
rounds of the NSSS,
which produced a best
result of eighth in the
series final at
Adelaide’s Speedway City
circuit. The following
year (2006/2007),
Bergmeier joined the
NSSS as a contracted
driver, visiting many
circuits for the first
time and accumulating
vital experience along
the way.
In addition to his NSSS
exploits, the last two
seasons have seen
Bergmeier contest
several events in the
highly competitive Super
Sedan Association series
in Queensland as well as
the VSSA Southern
Nationals Series
throughout his home
state, securing podium
results in both
competitions. Last
season saw Bergmeier
secure a top five finish
in the Victorian Super
Sedan Championship at
Rushworth and he has
started his 2008/2009
campaign strongly with a
runner-up finish in the
VSSA feature event at
Avalon Raceway on
Saturday night.
Speedway Sedans
Australia (ASCF) and the
National Association of
Speedway Racing (NASR)
are very pleased to
confirm Ashley Bergmeier
as a contracted driver
in the 2008/2009 Carline
Mufflers National Super
Sedan Series.
