driver Darren Kane too
long to get into victory
lane for the 2010/11
season.
Last weekend’s opening
round of the Proton
Queensland Super Sedan
Series at Maryborough
Speedway resulted in
Kane driving his QLD #
36 Boettcher Racing Team
Mazda RX8 to a
commanding victory.
“Our team couldn’t have
hoped for a better start
to the new season and we
are hoping to only build
on this performance,”
Kane expressed, who had
the previous weekend had
a low-key shakedown run
at Gympie’s Mothar
Mountain Speedway. “As
always, the team worked
very hard all night,
which made my job
easier, and we were
rewarded with the best
possible result.”
Although the night
ended in winning
fashion, it wasn’t all
plain sailing for Kane
and the Boettcher Racing
Team.
“The team kept its eyes
on the big picture, the
feature race, as we
always do, and the car
was great for the
feature race,” said
Kane, who had earlier in
the night won the
opening heat race, which
saw him record the
fastest lap of the
night, and then finish
fourth and third in his
remaining two heat
races. “For the feature
race we started fifth
after the pole shuffle,
as we had to fight our
way from the back of the
field in two of our
three heat races, and it
set us up well for when
the feature race came
around.”
In the feature race
Kane worked his way into
second place by the
middle stages and he
then worked on chasing
after runaway leader
Steve Jordan. By the 23rd
lap he had caught and
passed Jordan and from
there went on to score a
comfortable victory.
“During the feature
race the car just kept
getting better and
better,” commented the
former duel Australian
Champion. “Once I moved
into second I then had
clear traffic to be able
to chase after Steve
[Jordan] and that’s what
I was able to achieve.”
Kane and the Boettcher
Racing Team will next be
in action on Saturday
night, October 9 at
Brisbane International
Speedway for the second
round of the Proton
Queensland Series.
